The 3rd Annual Michigan Honey Festival is July 12, 2014 in the beautiful town of Frankenmuth Michigan.
We are new bee keepers in you remember. Our bees didn’t do so well over the winter, to say it nicely. They all died. So we are starting over.
So we regrouped when we discovered that this winter, built new Langstroath hives and got 3 new swarms of bees (think of it like a heard of cows, but they have wings and are bees with stingers)
We are super excited to see all the events going on at the Honey Festival.
The festival was created to help educate the public about honeybees and promote bee keeping.
It is going to be from 10-5 in Frankenmuth Michigan at the Harvey Kern Pavilion in Frankenmuth. Visit the Honey Festival site for more info on where to go. Cost is $5 for Adults, kids 12 and under FREE.
There is a lot of things to see. Honey bee extraction, honey tasting, hive demonstrations, a guy with a bee beard (wearing bees on his body), kids activities, llama rides (for a fee) and food, There will be food.
Bring money. You can purchase your bee keeping supplies, flowers to support our food supply. You can also purchase mead (bee beer).
Bring your camera or smart phone to take pictures of the cool looking bee hives. You won’t believe how awesome people can make hives look.
Join the hive and sign up to be a member of your local bee club.
Learn to do the waggle dance. Ok maybe that is just a video I’ll have to make with my kids. You’ll have to ask the bee ‘people’ what that is if you don’t know.
You will want to check the list of speakers talking through out the day as well. So much good information. I found this image below on different flowers you can plant to help the bees thrive. I hope you enjoy the festival with your honey.
