Have you ever wondered what your green bean casserole would taste like, if you made it a different way?
I agreed to take Onion Crunch‘s challege and made my green bean casserole with French’s French Fried Onions, Fresh Gourmet’s Crispy Onions and Onion Crunch’s onions they sent me, to compare what they tasted like with my family. Some Celebrity Chefs such as Robert Irvine, Michael Symon, Marcus Samuelsson, Josh Capon, Madison Cowan among others who have all taken the Onion Crunch Challenge as well to taste the difference.
I made my green bean casserole the same why I always do:
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can of french cut green beans
Mix and spread out and cover with onion mix.
Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.
I did this and placed them into 3 dishes (Fresh Gourmet on the left, French’s in the center and Onion Crunch on the far right).
Comments on the Fresh Gourmet: tasted alright, a little greasy, not what I would serve.
Comments on the French’s: tastes similar to the first one, somewhat of more oniony taste, a little tangy.
Comments on the Onion Crunch: tastes like onions, not super greasy, pretty good crunch.
One family member was a purest and only wanted to eat the casserole without the onions.
In looking at the packaging, 2 noted that they contained wheat. French’s did not, but made note that it is produced on the same equipment as products containing milk.
In looking at the ingredients, only Onion Crunch contained ingredients that didn’t require a dictionary. (Onions, Palm Fruit Oil, Wheat Flour and Salt).
Take the challenge yourself and taste the difference.
Please note: My opinions are my own. Your’s may differ due to your families tastes and likes.
