A month ago, we had no money and needed to get things for school lunches and the essentials. Additional orthodontic bills drained our accounts in a big way. We HAD to get groceries. I had NO coupons on the items we needed. This happens. So how can you save money without coupons?
Shop sales – I bought items that were on sale that we needed. I was not brand loyal. If we needed snacks, I got the snacks that were on sale. If we needed toilet paper, I got the toilet paper that was on sale.
Shop store brands – luckily Kroger was still having the sales for school items, so I was able to get their snacks on a 10/10 sale. Instead of the normal brand that is $2.50 a box (regular price).
Reduced Price – Look for the rack in the veggie isle for fruits that are ripe and need to move, they are discounted. Look for those stickers on meat that they are reduced for quick sale as well. This will get you through the times you don’t have a lot of money. I shop that way even when we have extra money. Day old bread sales are great too.
Only what you need – Buy only what you need, not what you want. Chances are things you want will go on sale soon or have a coupon. We bought 1 gallon of milk, instead of the normal 4 as it would get us through until we got paid.
How do you stretch your dollars when you budget is so tight it squeaks?
